Turmeric and Old Maps

So, I'm just about finished designing the garments for my 'Steampunk in India' collection for my independent study.  I've spent the past few weeks researching and sketching almost constantly.  In addition to the garment that I will be constructing for my independent study, I'll be creating a bound book to present my rendered designs at the end of the semester.  I also just found out that I'll be able to create additional garments from the Steampunk line for credit in my Portfolio class...yay!

The first piece that I'll be working on for the first outfit will be a corset (surprise surprise).  I have to dye the fabric this weekend for which I'll be using onion skins and Turmeric.  I've decided I'll be using an image transfer technique to layer images of old maps (of India in particular) across the surface of the corset.  Fortunately, I've found some really spectacular maps to choose from.

Progress pictures to come...

First major portfolio assignment

Pleated skirt with wide waistband and simple tank-top.  The skirt fabric features a floral pattern that is offset by the pleating.

Rendered in pencil.

Working on a new layout for my portfolio.  The figures are inspired by swing dancers.  [0119000053-707003.jpg]
